"I ask you, who is this band of orphans?" said Major General Stanley.
"Why, they're the Pirates of Penzance!" one of his many daughters replied.
"Who dat?" the General replied followed by a slew of laughter and applause from the audience.
On the historic weekend that the Saints won the Super Bowl, Loyola's Opera Theatre performed Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera, "The Pirates of Penzance."
The play is a tale of an orphan pirate gang out to get some booty and marry the Major General Stanley (played by general studies freshman Patrick Jacobs)'s daughters in swashbuckling England.
Set in 1879, "Pirates" introduces us to the dreamy Frederic (played by both performance sophomore James Dornier, and performance freshman Chris Abide) who, because of his 21st birthday, was just released from his apprenticeship as a pirate, and sets off to find love.
Other actors in the play included performance junior Jessica Mirshka and performance sophomore Shannon Meyer as Ruth, performance graduate student Kate Abreo, performance senior Dody Nolan as Mabel, and performance junior Jacob Penick and performance freshman Taylor Miller as the Pirate King.
